Rose Kodet's voice

My father died of AIDS. My mother was also weakened by the same disease and she could not maintain the family. I and my other siblings went to the streets and started to fend for ourselves through begging and picking leftover food stuffs from garbage heaps.

In 2002, CRO social workers found me while I was begging in the streets. I was very dirty, hungry and had scabies on my whole body. CRO treated me, gave me food and counselled me.

They enrolled me into a rehabilitation class for a year where I learnt to read, write, sing and many other things. Later I was enrolled in Namatala primary school for formal education. I am now in primary three. My best subject is science. I like going to school every day where I play netball with other children. In future I would like to become a teacher.

I am grateful to CRO because they also treat my mother and have given her a small vendor business. Her business earns her a little profit which she uses to buy food and pay rent. She no longer goes to the streets to beg. However, we still depend on CRO for my school fees. I thank all the donors who support us. May God bless you very much!
