Child Restoration Outreach (CRO) is a Christian founded and registered Non-Government Organization- INDP5293913NB, established in 1992 with a national perspective, and has its Head Offices in Mbale City, Eastern Uganda. Currently CRO operates four branches in four districts of Mbale, Jinja, Masaka and Lira. It has, since inception, impacted the lives of approximately 15,000 street children and young people through rehabilitation, reintegration in families, provision of vocational skills, formal education in primary, secondary, tertiary schools and higher institutes of learning.

Position overview:

Child Restoration Outreach is seeking to recruit compassionate and dedicated Rehabilitation Class Teachers to her branches in Lira and Jinja. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to improving the lives of street-connected children through education, mentorship, and psycho-social support. This role involves creating a safe and inclusive learning environment that fosters personal, spiritual and academic growth.

Position: Rehabilitation Class Teachers (2) 

Location: (One for Jinja & one for Lira)

Reports to: Branch Manager

Salary: Commensurate with training and experience

 Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to the needs and abilities of street children.
  • Rescue: Participate in street walks to get children off the streets and enroll them for rehabilitation. 
  • Teaching: Deliver remedial educational content in various subjects, including literacy, numeracy, life skills, and social studies to prepare children for formal and vocational education
  • Career guidance: Engage the children in decision making with regard to future career aspirations. 
  • Mentorship: Provide emotional support and guidance to students, helping them navigate personal challenges and rebuild self-esteem.
  • Assessment: Monitor student progress, adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning needs and recommend appropriate career paths as well as those who are due for reintegration. 
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with parents, community leaders, and social workers to promote the welfare of street children.
  • Child Safeguarding: Ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment, addressing any issues related to abuse or neglect.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and behavioral issues.
  • Reporting: Prepare periodic progress reports to the branch manager as and when requested. 
  • Advocacy: Organize and participate awareness, lobbying and advocacy campaigns like the day of the African child
  • Relationships: Build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of people in addition to own team, including children, donors, managers, stakeholders/customers, other project team members, external agencies and vendors. 

NON-EXHAUSTIVE LIST 

The foregoing list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and the Rehabilitation Class Teacher may, in addition, perform such other functions as may be necessary or appropriate in the circumstances, within the authority delegated by the Branch Manager.

Qualifications and experience: 

The applicant MUST be a genuine born-again Christian with the following Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

He/she must hold minimum of a Diploma in Primary Education, ECD, Child Development, Social Work & Social Administration or any related field from a reputable Institution with a working experience of at least three (3) years in a reputable organization. Knowledge of respective local languages (Luo in Lira and Lusoga / Luganda in Jinja) will be an added advantage.

Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly street-connected children or at-risk youth will be an added advantage. 

He/she should possess Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and community as well as Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching and mentoring children.

Working Conditions

– Work in a community-based environment, often outdoors or in non-traditional classroom settings.

– May require occasional evening or weekend work for community events or parent meetings.
