The role CRO Uganda in restoration of children who are in street connected situations.

What We're Dealing with

As many as 7,000 children between the ages of 7-17 years, wander on the streets of Mbale, Masaka, Lira and Jinja without care, parental guidance, shelter, and other basic needs of life.

These children have neither access to education nor skills training and are likely to grow up in poverty and constitute societal nuisance.

CRO is concerned about the dilemma of children in street situation, the early exposure to abuses, the harmful effects of street life and therefore - how they can be provided with a better future.

Our Approach

CRO defines advocacy as giving street children a voice by demanding that those with power and influence take action.CRO defines advocacy as giving street children a voice by demanding that those with power and influence take action.

We want to change the world for street children by:

  • Ensuring they can access services, resources, care and opportunities that other children have,
  • Amplifying street children’s voices so they can make their views known,
  • Putting an end to the discrimination of children living on the streets.

Why they matter?

Street children depend on the streets for their survival – whether they live on the streets, work on the streets, have support networks on the streets, or a
combination of the three.

Nobody knows exactly how many street children there are, but each has their own unique story. Their reason for being connected to the streets are many and
varied but poverty, displacement due to natural disasters and conflicts, discrimination, abuse or family breakdown can all play a role.

Become part of the network of the many men and women who are trying to make a difference for our kids and in their lives. Participate in our campaign, attend our awareness events, sign our petitions, and let us know of initiatives, events, campaigns that foster the life of street teens.
