Food Support to Street Connected Children - COVID_19 Response

World over the effects of COVID-19 pandemic have been felt. Since Uganda is no exception, this compelled the president of Uganda to institute a national lockdown for the second time.

This has seen a lot of restrictions on the movement of people from one district to another, private vehicles not being allowed except with due permission from the Resident district commissioners, most of the businesses have been closed down except for food markets. All learning institutions and social gatherings have been banned during this lock down.

With tight restrictions for people to access the city centers, children could no longer reach the CRO Centers during the lock down.

Worse still, the parents who are mainly hand-to-mouth daily earners are also locked up in the community and can no longer reach their places of work to earn a living to humbly sustain their families.

It’s upon this background that Child Restoration Outreach (CRO Uganda) through its branches, locally fundraises for food support to enable the street connected children thrive through this tough season.

Note that nutrition support is one of CRO’s major activity since hunger and starvation are some of the leading causes of children moving to the streets.

With support from our partners like Frank and Flower, CRO Jinja reached out to over 200 families of street connected children with portion raw food package composed of maize flour, beans, salt, silver fish (mukene) and Soap. This support benefited over 500 individuals in Masese and surround communities in Jinja town. Bravo!

Street connected children from over 75 families in Masaka and Mbale also were supported with maize flour, cooking oil, beans and soap.

We applaud you our dear supporters for the generous hand and concern for the children. Thank you for bringing a smile on their faces.

However, we still appeal to more partners, friends and well-wishers to support us such that the street connected children may be reached out with food support during this tough season.

Our current coverage is only at 40% of the needy children and families. It is not about how much you give, but the impact of what you give.
