Nutrition Support
CRO provides meals to children at our centres to help meet their basic nutritional needs. At our transit centres children receive daily meals, while children reached through our call-in centres are provided with breakfast. Meal provision depends heavily on the funding available to us at any given time, so what we are able to serve can vary and is not always guaranteed to be the same from day to day. Children attending nearby schools also return to the centre for a meal where possible, so they get at least one proper meal a day.
- Daily meals that reduce malnutrition and encourage attendance at rehabilitation and school, provided as consistently as funding allows.
- Our own farms, where we grow staple food crops, helping us produce part of our own food rather than relying only on donations.
- Emergency food relief for families in times of crisis, such as during Covid-19.
- Agricultural projects that also teach children farming skills including livestock.
Health and Medical Support
CRO runs medical clinics at each of our four centres, serving both street connected children and vulnerable families nearby. Beyond treating illness, we support children's overall wellbeing through hygiene and sanitation, mental health support, and sensitisation on issues such as drug and substance abuse.
- Treatment for common conditions such as malaria, infections, worm infestations and minor wounds.
- Referral to government hospitals for more serious cases, such as surgeries or HIV/AIDS care.
- Mobile clinics in the slums, offering health education, immunisations and family planning services.
- Hygiene and sanitation support, including access to clean water, washing facilities and basic supplies.
- Mental health support and counselling to help children cope with trauma, stress and loss.
- Sensitisation on drug and substance abuse, and support for children working to overcome addiction.
Our impact in 2025
674 children received nutritional support, and 435 children were supported to access medical care, with Mbale as our strongest centre for healthcare access.
