Income Generating Activities
CRO provides seed capital for small businesses to families of street connected children. Before receiving support, families go through business skills training to make sure the business can actually last.
- Seed capital to start a small business, paired with practical business training beforehand.
- Regular follow up visits from our staff, offering technical guidance, monitoring progress and encouraging families to reinvest profits.
- As a result, many families are now able to afford daily meals, pay rent and meet their children's basic needs, creating a more stable home.
Village Savings and Loans Associations & Self-Help Groups
Since 2008, CRO has supported Self-Help Groups in the poorest slum communities. Members, mostly women, pool their weekly savings and lend to each other at low interest to support small business ventures.
- Weekly savings and access to small loans through a shared community pot.
- Financial literacy and business skills training.
- Regular group discussions on children's rights, nutrition and hygiene, HIV/AIDS prevention, and parenting.
These groups strengthen not just household income, but also confidence, self-esteem and community solidarity.
Women's and Men's Support Groups
CRO runs women's and men's clubs in slum communities including Namatala, Masese, Barogole and Nyendo, equipping parents and guardians with practical knowledge and support to improve family wellbeing and childcare.
